I hope you will come visit me at my new home:
I haven’t gotten bored with my big beads yet. There is something endlessly intriguing about playing with colors and patterns — although, I guess you could say that about a lot of types of art!
I still like the black and white big beads the best, but Keith says he really likes these.
Every now and then it’s fun to play with purchased components. Most of the dangles on this necklace come from big box craft stores, like Michael’s Arts and Crafts and JoAnn Fabrics. However, some do come from a locally owned store, Wisconsin Craft Market. I like it when I can buy local.

When I make my Big Beads, I also slice off some flat disks, because I love to play with them as individual beads, too. Here’s the whole necklace:

I’m back to making my big beads. This time, I decided to force myself to try an unusual and more subtle palette than I usually choose. I like it more than I thought I would, but I think the contrast could be a little better. The gold clay sparkles more than I expected.
Although the core of my beading life is making and using my original polymer clay beads, sometimes a girl just has to string. There are so many truly interesting components out there — like the Industrial Chic line — that I can’t ignore them. This necklace uses pieces I collected from a variety of craft stores. It was fun to collect the pieces — and it was fun to put them together.
I went to the Madison Bead Show a few weeks ago with $30 in my purse. That seemed a like a reasonable, if tight, budget, but I’d forgotten that you pay $7 to get in! I prowled the market carefully, trying to figure out the best way to spend my remaining cash.
Mostly, I spent it on seed beads, but I had to have this pink flower bead, crafted by Tanya McGuire. Isn’t it awesome? I had to start making it into a bracelet the minute I got home. It was a very fun piece to work on.
I had to pass up a lot of lovely beads. But at least I rode my bike. Otherwise, I’d been out another $6!
